Forefoot Pain

Forefoot pain, or metatarsalgia, refers to the inflammation or pain in the ball of the foot.

Forefoot pain, or metatarsalgia, refers to the inflammation or pain in the ball of the foot. Ideally a person’s body weight should be distributed equally across the metatarsal bones, which have the function of sharing this weight. However, an imbalance in this weight distribution is common and frequently leads to pain in the forefoot.

Anything from diabetes to abnormalities in the foot can lead to metatarsalgia and, being caused by a variety of factors, it is one of the most common conditions that podiatrists see.

StepEase Podiatry can treat your forefoot pain using prescriptive shoes, orthotics, strappings, or by assigning specialised foot exercises. Other technologies such as x-rays and ultrasounds may be used to determine whether you could benefit from cortisone or anti-inflammatory injections.
